چکیده

observers seem to enliven the subsequent schadenfreude, even producing a sense of poetic justice. Resentment is often intense and can lead to extreme, sometimes violent actions. Because people feeling resentment believe they have been unjustly treated and wronged, they can correspondingly feel justified in redressing the wrong. However, the possibility of biased, exaggerated, construals of the wrong mean that the redressing actions are themselves wrong. Spiraling retaliatory actions can then ensue. Scholars speculate that many intergroup conflicts mirror this pattern. Clearly, resentment is an important human emotion that deserves careful and sustained study.

The Self-Study Testing Effect with Bidirectional Paired Associate Learning

The testing effect describes a method of retrieval practice that benefits long term retention of learned material, over restudying and re-exposure (Roediger & Karpicke, 2006a). The benefits of testing have been implemented outside of psychology laboratories into classrooms around the US, but are still not being taken advantage of by students outside of lecture (Karpicke, Butler & Roediger, 2009...

Reversing the testing effect by feedback: Behavioral and electrophysiological evidence.

The testing effect refers to the finding that retrieval practice of previously studied information enhances its long-term retention more than restudy practice does. Recent work showed that the testing effect can be dramatically reversed when feedback is provided to participants during final recall testing (Storm, Friedman, Murayama, & Bjork, 2014). Following this prior work, in this study, we e...

Retrieval practice enhances new learning: the forward effect of testing

In the last couple of years, there has been a dramatic increase in laboratory research examining the benefits of recall testing on long-term learning and retention. This work was largely on the backward effect of testing, which shows that retrieval practice on previously studied information, compared to restudy of the same material, renders the information more likely to be remembered in the fu...

Comparing the testing effect under blocked and mixed practice: The mnemonic benefits of retrieval practice are not affected by practice format.

The act of retrieving information modifies memory in critical ways. In particular, testing-effect studies have demonstrated that retrieval practice (compared to restudy or to no testing) benefits long-term retention and protects from retroactive interference. Although such testing effects have previously been demonstrated in both between- and within-subjects manipulations of retrieval practice,...

PKMζ contributes in consolidation, retrieval and maintenance of amygdala dependent fear memory in rats

Introduction: Protein kinase M zeta (PKMζ) is assumed to be actively involved in retainig long-term potentiation. The goal of this study was to investigate the role of PKMζ in basolateral amygdala (BLA) upon acquisition, consolidation, retention and retrieval of memory using a specific inhibitor of PKMζ. Methods: Sixty male wistar rats underwent stereotaxic surgery and were cannu...
